Provide your children with basic knowledge of cooking so they are able to eventually prepare it themselves and do not resort to living on unhealthy fast food and expensive take out. Both boys and girls can feel a sense of independence if they know some basics about meal preparation. This can also be high quality time for the family to spend together.

When becoming a stepparent, you have to accept that your stepchildren may not like you. It is possible that the children are resentful because they want their parents to be together. If you don’t rush things and give them time to develop, your stepchild should slowly start to accept you.

Pick your battles. Choose instead only the truly important behaviors to fight about. He should know that while he can be himself, certain rules are there to protect him.
