Lay your baby on her back and set a favorite toy on her belly so she will look down at it. Place a drop in the corner of your baby’s eye and this way when she looks up again it will gently roll into her eye. Invest in a great nursing pillow for breastfeeding twins. A pillow will make your breastfeeding go much more smoothly. You will be able to use it to feed both at the same time. Make sure you remember to switch sides during the feedings as they will have different sucking patterns. Parenting your children takes much time and energy.
Remember that it is okay to give yourself a break and recharge your own batteries. By giving yourself some down time, you will be more fully available and alert when you are with your children. They are sure to appreciate the difference in you. Make sure you are communicating with your child frequently. Good communication involves talking and listening; when you engage in these two skills with your child, it helps develop trust and respect between the two of you.
When they are very young, talking also encourages language development, which opens the door to begin engaging in a variety of educational tasks. Although children may be temperamental there is no such thing as a bad child. If your child is constantly disobedient and disrespectful, that says much more about you than it does your children. Just like you had to learn Algebra you must learn how to raise a child. There are many resources available for you.
Overdressing can lead to a crabby baby! Babies get hot and uncomfortable wearing too much, just like we do. A good rule of thumb is to dress your baby the way you feel comfortable, whether for indoors or out. If it’s cool and you need a jacket, baby probably does too! TVs falling on children happens more than you would like to imagine it does. In the age of big screen TV’s, it is more important than ever to secure your television sets.
The best place for a television is mounted to the wall, but if this is not an option, bolt it down to the entertainment center. Making sure your home is safe for your little ones is an essential part of parenting. An important tip to consider in terms of parenting is to make sure that you do all that you can to raise your child with two parents. Children benefit greatly by having a strong mother and father who can show them how to live properly from both angles of living.
Never be afraid to ask your parents for advice when you need to deal with your own children. Whether you’re looking forward to gathering some information about how to put a baby to sleep, or inquiring about some teenager-specific info to defuse a situation, your parents dealt with these things with you, as theirs did with them, and so on, and so on.
An important tip for parents is to become acquainted with your children’s friends as well as their parents. By getting to know your children’s playmates and also their moms and dads, it is possible to develop a sense of comfort and confidence in the types of influences to which your sons and daughters are regularly exposed.
To encourage adventurous palates and cultivate manners, introduce your children to the concept of a “no, thank you” or to have bite or serving. This teaches them not to insult someone by refusing food or pronouncing it “yucky,” and by trying just a little, they may end up liking the new food anyway. You may think all those public service announcements will serve to teach your teens they should stay away from drugs, protect themselves from STDs, and to be responsible drivers, but that’s usually not the case.
Parents need to discuss these issues with their children, explain their values and express what they expect from their kids. Play with your children. Not only is it fun for both of you, playing also has an incredible impact on reducing children’s negative behaviors. By spending time with your children in this manner, you are making them feel like they are important to you. That means they will be less likely to engage in negative behaviors to get your attention. A child will be one of the greatest joys and challenges that you will ever face in your life.
You will never laugh as much as you do at your child nor will you ever be quite so frustrated as you become with your child. Try to take the good with the bad to help it all even out. It is important for a child to know exactly what is expected of them each and every day. A child should not have to wonder or guess what their parents want them to do.
They should know exactly what they are supposed to do and what the consequences will be if they do not do what is expected. As your child grows up, give them increased responsibility by soliciting their suggestions for activities you can share. One-on-one time with your children is precious and increasingly rare as they grow older. Ask their advice on how to get more of it, and you will be rewarded with a stronger parent-child bond, even as your child gets older.
When you review helpful parenting advice like that above, you are doing a great service to your children and yourself. You make parenting less work and more fun. Self-education takes the mystery and the challenge out of parenting. What you are left with is the exciting adventure – the happy and heart-warming task of bringing your kids up well.
